ALBANY, NY (WENY) - During his daily briefing, Governor Andrew Cuomo revealed there have been 73 cases of severe illness in children in New York state caused by COVID-19. Cuomo says this is still rare, but symptoms are similar to kawasaki disease and toxic shock-like symptoms. A 5-year old boy passed away in New York City on Thursday from these coronavirus-related complications, and the state is investigating several child deaths. Cuomo says, "This would be really painful news, and would open up an entirely different chapter. I can't tell you how many people I've spoke to who took peace and solace in the fact that children were not getting infected. We thought that children might be vehicles of transmission. A child could...
Three North Texas sisters all battled COVID-19 at the same time. They got sick at the same time and were quarantined, and treated their sickness together. They are now telling their story together. “All three of us had the coronavirus, and all three of us beat the coronavirus,” the Guidry sisters said. Chelsea, Carinthia, and Chassidy are close as can be. The US has said it wants to borrow a record $3tn (£2.4tn) in the second quarter, as coronavirus-related rescue packages blow up the budget. The sum is more than five times the previous quarterly record, set at the height of the 2008 financial crisis. In all of 2019, the country borrowed $1.28tn. The US has approved about $3tn in virus-related relief, including health funding and direct payouts. Total US government debt is now near $25tn. The latest spending packages are estimated to be worth about 14% of the country's economy. The government has also extended the annual 15 April deadline for tax payments, adding to the cash crunch. The new borrowing estimate is more than $3tn above the government's...
May 8 (UPI) — Gov. Greg Abbott met Thursday with President Donald Trump in the White House to discuss Texas’ response to the coronavirus pandemic as the state moves forward with restarting its economy. Speaking with reporters in the Oval Office, Abbott touted the state’s ability to reopen while still responding to flare-ups in certain places. He also promoted the action he took hours earlier that prevents Texans from being jailed for violating his executive orders. That decision was prompted by the case of Shelley Luther, a Dallas hair salon owner who was jailed earlier this week for illegally reopening her business. She was freed as Abbott was at the White House. “We should not be taking these people and...
A South Florida chef and restaurant owner said she feels great after battling COVID-19 but more than 40 days later, she still has the virus. Josie Smith-Malave says she couldn't believe she re-tested positive for COVID-19, 42 days after her first test on March 27. "My results came back on Sunday and I tested positive once again," Smith-Malave said. "Distressing to say the very least because I feel fine. I feel like I could go ride a bike to the beach." Smith-Malave, who owns Bubbles + Pearls in Wilton Manors, said she had the whole gamut of symptoms, but two really stood out. "I mean nothing, I could not smell anything and we did many tests because my nose is...
